East meets West in Byzance, the 1986 fragrance from the always-innovative perfume house of Rochas. Created by Rochas perfumer Nicholas Mamounas, Byzance is a lush, rich but understated floral semi-oriental fragrance, commemorating the Empire of Byzantium. The Byzantine Empire, founded when the capital of the Roman Empire was transferred from Rome to Constantinople in 324, existed in the eastern Mediterranean area until the fifteenth century. The arts and culture of this "New Rome" set the standards for cultural excellence for the Latin West and the Islamic East. The glory and splendor of Byzantine art, mosaics and architecture is translated into Byzance's beautiful cobalt-blue bottle and carried through into the juice within. A refined and delicate floral fragrance of soft fruits and fresh aldehydes.
